How to – Off-Grid Living

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Off grid living will make you more independent and give you a control on your life. It will also help you get accustomed for all the services that you have been paying to others. They will help you to be independent and you will be able to cater to your own needs.

These kinds of services are usually used by the people living in remote areas. The off grid services have never been so easily available as today. People are looking for ways which can help them live at their own place and don’t have to bother to move to other areas for availing the services without any difficulty. Getting dependent on the off grid services can be difficult for people living in cities but it will be wrong to say that it’s not possible.

These services are mainly dependent on the wind and solar energies, and therefore, the effectiveness of them depends upon the area you live in. This means that if you live in an area where solar power is not easily available like for example, the northern region, or the areas where wind is not a regular feature, it is still possible to enjoy the benefits of off-grid living. If you only get wind at the time of storms, it will not be sufficient for you to generate the energy that would be required to provide power to your home and more over the wind storms can only damage the generators and not provide power to them.

You will first have to determine the choice of area that is available to you. The next step will be to find an ideal system that will serve your purpose and if it is within your budget too. And the most important feature to look at will be the emergencies and the breakdowns. Therefore, you will have to make all the provisions for the backup including the cost of batteries and fuel. Batteries can be termed as the most expensive feature but still cannot guarantee you with the power storing capacity. Once you start living on the off grid system, you will be on your own with nothing to fall off on. In case, if the electricity goes off in your area, you will be one of the few people who will be relaxed and carefree about the power cut in your area.

Not only the system will make you independent but will also help you add on to your savings. You can reduce the cost to get the same services with the help of off grid living.  The system will defiantly take some time before you can see the saving happening but over a due course of time its definite to come your way.

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

One of the most popular networking websites is Facebook, which only used to be available to students in colleges. Now it is wide open to everyone and is exploding off the charts. This site is trafficked by individuals of all ages and countries and has a lot more options like video uploads, photo albums and many new applications. If you want your business to be recognized, this is the place for you.

MySpace is a great resource for meeting new people and making friends online. It is very similar to Facebook, but there is more of a focus on the site for musicians who are trying to share their music with their fans. By placing links to helpful articles on MySpace to your website, will give your visitors a reason to visit and learn more about your company or business.

Joining forums that are related to your business is another good way of social networking. Look for forums that your customer might be searching for to learn more about the products you provide. Set an hour a side each day to go out and read peoples comments and respond when appropriate. When you start getting to know people, it will build your credibility and drive more traffic to your site.

Social networking is not an opportunity to overwhelm people with your services or products. Instead, think of it as a way to relate to your customers and find out if there are better ways in which to serve them. This is a great opportunity to really find out what people are saying and looking for.

The Rising Popularity of Biodiesel Fuel

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

With the rising price of gasoline these days the idea of turning to a more affordable alternative fuel source is becoming more appealing to many people. Biodiesel fuel is an alternative fuel that many people are making right in their own backyards from renewable sources that are readily available. Another alternative fuel that is in the news these days is ethanol. Ethanol is being sold in the U.S. and in other countries as a viable alternative to regular gasoline but if you don’t have access to an ethanol station or don’t have a car that has been modified to run on it then another choice is needed. Biodiesel is the perfect fuel to fill that spot because of the ease with which it can be made. If this is your first exposure to biodiesel then a little explanation of what it is in order. Biodiesel is a fuel that is mode from vegetable oil that can be used in cars and truck with diesel engines. Depending on the manufacturer you can purchase vehicles that are made specifically to run on biodiesel fuel. You can also get biodiesel conversion kits that allow you to use this alternative fuel in diesel engines that aren’t built towards the biodiesel specification and in many cases these cars and trucks will run on biodiesel without any modifications. This relatively new fuel source can be made from a number of renewable oils such as vegetable, canola or soy. In fact waste oil from restaurants and other establishments that use vegetable oil can also be used. It does take longer to process used oil but the results are the same. The vegetable oil is run through a processor that will turn it into biodiesel fuel. These processors can be purchased as kits which can cost several thousand dollars. But when you think about how much you pay at the pump each year it’s easy to see that recouping the cost of making your own fuel will take only a few years. There is a multitude of information on the internet today about biodiesel fuel. If producing it is something you are considering then spend some time researching not the processes involved but also the different processing kits available. Many companies will ship a biodiesel fuel processing kit right to your front door, but be sure of what’s involved before you lay down your money. With the right research and information you can soon be on your way to producing a renewable energy source that is considered one of the most clean burning fuels available on the market today. And you can do it in your back yard.

Ethanol & Bioalcohol

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Everyone seems to be seeking a better way to power vehicles without burning fossil fuels. There are many great alternatives currently being considered. Ethanol and bioalcohol are two of these possibilities. Many people do not know much about these things so it is a good idea to get to know some of the terminology. Ethanol and bioalcohol are forms of alcohol that are derived from fuel sources that are not fossil fuels. It is important that we all learn as much as we can about better ways to be green while driving. It will make a great difference when it comes time to make some significant decisions.

Ethanol is pretty much the exact same type of alcohol as the one found in alcoholic drinks. It is now widely used by many in flex fuel vehicles and it is also blended at many gas stations with regular gasoline. Blending ethanol with regular gasoline is something that many gas stations have been doing for a while now. It is totally safe for the engine and it allows your fuel to burn a little bit cleaner and reduce emissions given off into the atmosphere. Ethanol comes from completely natural resources like corn or other crops like sugar cane. It is a renewable resource which makes it perfect as a fuel source.

The creation of ethanol is actually quite simple. It begins with photosynthesis because it is nothing more than the sun’s energy converted into another form. There are actually four different types of bioalcohol: methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol. More countries are currently discovering the benefits of using alcohol as a fuel source. Brazil is currently leading the way as they have made many significant changes in their choice of fuel resources. Of course, it is important to note that this type of alcohol is not safe to drink. It is much stronger than that found in beverages even though it is essentially the same thing. To drink it could cause death or even blindness.

An obvious advantage of bioalcohol and ethanol is that it can easily be made virtually anywhere there is natural plant and animal life. Literally any plant matter can be converted into ethanol with the use of biomass. The fact that it burns clean without any toxic emissions makes it an obvious choice. Even if you cannot buy a vehicle that runs on bioalcohol, you still have the option of using ethanol blended petroleum gas to reduce emissions.

Perhaps a potential disadvantage of bioalcohol is that it takes a lot of work to ensure that biomass is taking place properly. But that hardly seems like a very big price to pay. Buying a flex fuel vehicle may also be more expensive than a regular vehicle, which might not appeal to some consumers. It is important to remember there is a reason for it and it will be worth it in the long run. Choosing a fuel alternative is a personal decision that has to be taken seriously. Making a difference for the environment is what matters most right now.
